7 Fundamental Groups That Classifies Every Dog

To simply put it there are seven groups, purebred for this matter that comprises all of the worldwide dog population. This information is very valuable for both casual dog owners and trainers alike for the very fact that this can help give basic guidelines as to which methods in training your dog is best applicable, or even most appropriate. This article will be very helpful in setting up a foundation on beginning dog trainers, and those who are already knowledgeable about Dog Training.

Sporting Group

 Sporting Dogs

These are dogs which were bred to hunt alongside man, as they can be as enthusiastic and quick responders like their owners. Even at present, Sporting Dogs still can be observe in different hunting and field trials as they fit perfectly for the tasks involve. Given this fact, one can expect Sporting Dogs to be very active and would require exercise more frequently than other dogs.

Non-Sporting Group

 Non-Sporting Dogs

As the Group Name suggests, these are Dogs which does no longer perform tasks that they were originally bred for. This group is also the most diverse considering their shape, size, appearance, personalities, and a whole lot of other factors. Being diverse though means that applicable methods for every dog in this group will vary.

Hound Group

 Hound Dogs

These are dogs that chases their pray either by the use of either their sharp sense of sight(sight hounds) or smell(scent hounds). Like Sporting Groups, they are of most used in hunting alongside humans because of these two valuable skills. Hound Dogs are usually very calm, and gentle thus self-contained. This doesn't necessarily mean though that they are easy to control, since they can be very curious at times due to the aforementioned senses above so it's a good idea to keep them controlled with a leash.

Terrier Group

 Terrier Dogs

These dogs are known to flush out and catch rodents on farms and in the field earning them the title of being "the pest controllers". Strong-willed and fearless even with a small stature, they are very intelligent dogs. With all these traits, Terriers need a right home and a right owner that can keep up with its active and spirited attitude.

Toy Group

 Toy Dogs

Known for their cute and petite look, there were originally bred to keep people company. Their primary job is to make their owners happy, through their appearance or positive attitude that is. Being petite as they all are, they are most suitable to live at home alongside their owners.

Herding Group

 Herding Dogs

These dogs are bred primarily for the purpose of herding flocks of domestic animals like cattle and sheep. Possessing alot of stamina, they demand alot of exercise from their owners. It is also interesting to note that dogs from this group are very intelligent and perform extremely well for different kind of training such as search and rescue and obedience training.

Working Group

 Working Dogs

Bred to help man in accomplishing jobs such as pulling sleds, guiding blind people, and protecting property, they are all very physically strong and intelligent. In fact, they prove to be the best candidate for police and law enforcement duties such as locating drugs and weapons.
