Getting a dog isn't as simple as getting a fish in a pet store, or picking a fruit from the fruit stand. It requires preparation and interest on the part of the owner to be able to select the best Dog that will suit both your personality and lifestyle. Rest assured that if you follow to consider each of these step, you are most likely to select the Dog for you!

Step 1 - Why do you want to get a Dog in the first place?

Answering this question will allow you to get into the much needed details as to what kind of Dog you are going to get. If you are looking for a hunting companion, then choosing a dog from the Toy Group isn't going to work both for you and your dog. A helper in herding flocks? Dogs coming from the Herding Group are the best choice.

After answering this question, the Dog Group your dog of choice will be coming from will pretty much dictate its size, appearance, and personality.

Step 2 - Consider your Family along with your living environment

Do you live alone or do you have a family? This can be a deciding factor as to your preferences in choosing your Dog. If you do live alone, choosing a dog that requires frequent exercise will demand alot of time from the owner. If you have a family with you, one will always want to select a Dog that fits perfectly into your family. By this I mean a dog that's fit into living with playful kids and enjoys interacting with guests at home.

As for your living environment, if you own a house that has a yard. That will be an ideal place for your dog to play, or even stay at times. Though if you live in a condominium or an apartment, it is important to note that you should consult your landlord about you getting a dog. Sneaking one will spell disaster for both you as a tenant and to your newly owned dog.

Step 3 - Consider your personal Lifestyle

Are you a workaholic and aren't that frequently home? It is very important that one considers his lifestyle as he chooses what Dog to get because it'll save both you and the Dog trouble in the long run. You will not want that you have contrasting personalities with your Dog. It's better to select a dog that complements your lifestyle, a dog that you can bring along as you do daily activities such as jogging on morning, or simply walking along the park.

If you do tend to out most of the time, think of how your dog is going to be trained and fed. If you are intending to leave him at home for considerable amount of time all by himself, then I suggest you rethink the idea of getting a dog.

Step 4 - What preparations have you prepared for the new Dog's arrival?

If you really are determined to finding the right Dog for you, do some preparations to let him know your intention, to let him know that you're serious about it. Preparations may include fixing his possible spot in your home, getting food and tools he'll use. Preparing treats beforehand is a good idea too, since you may want to start training him afterward.

If you follow each and every step, I'm confident to say that you will be selecting the Best Dog suitable for you whenever you decide to get one!
