Need Dog Training Advice For Easily Distracted Dog

1

Droopy, an adopted GR of mine from a few months back is a fast learner. What I'm bothered with him about is that he easily gets distracted with the different things surrounding him. Even calling him by his pet name or whistling couldn't get his attention, any tips you could give me regarding my concern? I'd really appreciate it!

At last, a living proof that not all fast learning dogs have good concentration, i.e. does not get easily distracted.

An idea which quickly came to mind when I first read your question is get the dog familiar with his name. It's quite a shock actually to see that Droopy doesn't quite recognize his name yet, hence he doesn't respond when he's called.

To go about with this, what you need to do is to reinforce those action with a reward. This is as simple as offering him a treat as you call his name or as you whistle for his attention.

Let me know if this prove to be effective as it's proven to be effective personally, for my Dog Creamy.

I couldn't agree more with kevinSh0w! But another tip would be not opting for punishments whenever he doesn't listen to you. This will definitely just worsen your chance of actually getting his attention.

So far it's proving to be very effective. Just as other dogs can be easily familiar to the name they're given, Droopy isn't no exception.

Yeah, it's indeed weird. I think that it was only me who knew he's Droopy, and not Droopy himself~ lol

Thanks guys! Much appreciated..
